About Us
Girls of our country lag behind a considerable extent from the desirable role a girl should play in the social milieu in which she has her existence, in contrast to the role girls are playing in different corners of the world. Particularly, girls residing in villages are preys of severe discrimination. Talent of a girl child does not find this way towards manifestation due to lack of proper socio-educational environment. In particular, a girl child who is guardian-less and bereft of parents, the situation is totally unfavourable to her. Way towards leading her normal life gradually becomes cramped.
Two friends, resident of Bishnupuer village of North 24 Parganas, Sribindu Das and Ruma Majumder came forward in 2002 with their intense feeling for these helpless girl children with the strong desire of doing something for them. Their desire came true with the establishment of a residential building at Khantura, Gobardanga, North 24 Parganas. With the establishment of this building the institution ‘Gobardanga Prayas’ started into that building.
The main objective of ‘Gobardanga Prayas’ is to offer a way of living both physical and mental health for the guardian-less girl children living in untenable economic situation in rural areas. For this, ‘Gobardanga Prayas’ is acting relentlessly for creating a healthy and cultural atmosphere through proper education and training to its inmates free of any direct or indirect fee. All round development of all its in mates in terms education health and culture is the ultimate goal of ‘Gobardanga Prayas’.
‘Gobardanga Prayas’ started working with four female children, in the meantime a good number of residence ‘Gobardanga Prayas’ had passed their board examination of school and entered into the greater school life at present, gorals from class - V to class - X are pursuing their courses, residing in this institution.
□To establish guardian-less girl children of untenable economic situation in life through a course of proper education, cultural training and health awareness. □To organize different functions representing health and social awareness. □To distribute books to poor and meritorious students. □To Distribute rugs to poor people in winter seasons. □To organize different types of social and cultural functions for all round development of the residents and in order to relate the life of the residents with the society they belong. □To organize educational tours once or more in a year with all the residents. FUTURE ACTIVITIES □To extend the present the present building with the intention to accommodate more inmates. □To train the inmates and local girls in order to establish them in life through self help programmes. □To conduct naturopathy centre for the people of the area free of cost. □To establish Old Age Home. □To encourage farmers in applying organic manure for growing their corps instead of chemical manure. □To extend different social programmes in co-operation with nearby social and philanthropic institutions. We are very much proud that, in the course of running our institution, we have been favoured with the advice, honest association, assistance, and co-operation of a good number of people. People has come enthusiastically and spontaneously to help and co-operate us. It is our belief that we shall have the assistance of more people for the cause of expansion of our programme. The good will and sincere co-operation of people is the main source of our inspiration.
